Website Redesign

Transforming Digital Experience to Match Clinical Excellence

“Springboard truly understood who we are and the patients and families we serve. They translated our clinical expertise and compassionate care into a digital experience that finally reflects RML. The new site is clear, welcoming, and something we are incredibly proud of.”

Tricia Vaisvila

VP Business Development, RML Specialty Hospital

The Challenge

RML Specialty Hospital is a nationally recognized Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTCH) with deep expertise in treating medically complex patients, including ventilator weaning.

Despite its clinical strength, the organization’s website did not reflect the level of care, compassion, or leadership it is known for.

The old site:

  • Felt outdated and difficult to navigate
  • Lacked warmth and emotional connection for families under stress
  • Did not clearly differentiate RML from competitors
  • Failed to communicate the value of long-term acute care
  • Offered limited support for referrals, admissions, and recruitment

At the same time, RML faced two additional challenges:

  1. Increasing competition from an organization new to its market appeared more modern and accessible online, even if its clinical models were less robust.
  2. Because consumers are not familiar with LTCH options or differentiators – the new site needed to communicate that a patient is “in the right place” immediately.

RML website redesign needed more . . .

They needed a digital experience that quickly earned trust and clearly guided action.

The Objective

  • Create a modern, patient-centered website that:
    • Reflects RML’s dual identity: clinical expertise and compassionate care
    • Builds immediate trust with families making high-stakes decisions
    • Clearly explains long-term acute care and when it is needed
    • Supports admissions, referrals, and recruitment pathways
    • Improves accessibility, SEO, and overall usability

The goal was simple but critical:
Align RML’s digital presence with the reality of its advanced care and caring.

Springboard’s Four Areas of Focus

1. Reframing the Story Around Trust & Clarity

We centered the entire experience around a single idea:

RML provides “the right care at a critical time.

From there, we built messaging that:

  • Simplifies complex medical concepts
  • Reduces fear and confusion for families
  • Reinforces RML’s role as a hospital, not a step-down facility
  • Highlights meaningful differentiators such as 24/7 on-site physicians

2. Designing for Emotion & Decision-Making

Families arriving at the site are often overwhelmed and under pressure.

We intentionally designed for that reality:

  • Warm, human-centered visuals instead of sterile clinical imagery
  • Clear, calm language that avoids jargon
  • Structured pathways that guide users to next steps quickly
  • Messaging that balances reassurance with credibility

3. Building a Clear, Action-Oriented User Journey

We restructured the site architecture to support key audiences:

  • Patients and families
  • Referral partners
  • Prospective employees

Key improvements included:

  • Simplified navigation and page hierarchy
  • Streamlined admissions and referral pathways
  • Dedicated “Why RML” content to establish trust early
  • A stronger Careers section to support recruitment

4. Elevating Differentiation Through Content

We brought forward what truly makes RML different:

  • 24/7 on-site physician coverage
  • Not-for-profit, mission-driven care
  • Expertise in ventilator weaning and complex recovery
  • Whole-person care, including psychological and spiritual support

Rather than listing features, we translated these into meaningful benefits for patients, families, and clinicians.

The Solution

The new website redesign delivers:

  • A modern, accessible, and mobile-responsive design
  • Clear, compassionate messaging tailored to real user needs
  • Simplified pathways for admissions, referrals, and careers
  • SEO-optimized content to improve discoverability
  • ADA-aligned structure for accessibility and usability

Most importantly, it creates an experience that helps users quickly understand:

What RML is.

Who it’s for.

Why it matters.

The Impact

  • A digital experience that reflects RML’s clinical leadership and compassionate care
  • Strong internal alignment and client satisfaction
  • Improved clarity for patients and families navigating complex decisions
  • A foundation for increased admissions, referrals, and recruitment

Client feedback:
RML was extremely pleased with both the process and the outcome –“A 10 out of 10.”

Key Takeaways

  • In high-stakes healthcare decisions, clarity builds trust
  • Design must support emotional needs, not just information delivery
  • Differentiation is most powerful when translated into real-world impact
  • Strategy and execution must align to create meaningful results
